The sons of Montego Bay, Teejay and Tommy Lee did not disappoint as they both delivered high scoring performances on night 1 of Reggae Sumfest with Masicka and Valiant closing the top 4.
The night began with several new and established acts in dancehall taking center stage such as Rion Venicci, Moyann, Raphi Stalk Ashley, and a few others.
They were overshadowed by the dynamic performances of Vanessa Bling, Jah Vinci, and BayKa.
However, based on public feedback the top performers for night 1 were;
Teejay
The Glendevon Dj, got up close and personal with fans as he performed several of his hit songs, including crowd favorite, “Owna Lane”.
Teejay has arguably the biggest dancehall song of the summer with ‘Drift’ and this was evident throughout the night.
Tommy Lee
He delivered a stunning closing performance for night one Saturday morning and spoke candidly of lessons learned during his time in prison noting that it was “the best two years of my life.” He added that he also got time to reflect.
Tommy Lee expressed that he has found time for his family and himself – while making it known he only has 1 woman now and not 15 as he did before.
He was released from the Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston in March of this year after serving just over two years of a three-year sentence for a gun conviction.
He then shared a conversation he said he had with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel through a fence at the remand centre, during what is called “recreation” where they play football and more – he said “Wah day me and Kartel a reason…bout we youth dem. Him a say ‘[from] my youths a baby mi deh a prison and now dem have baby’. “It rough in deh bro.”
Lee further encouraged youngsters to stay on the right side of the law – while performing several of his hits.
The Sparta DJ also shared that he has overcome drug addiction, he said “mi used to a pop pills” – off of that now, he says he was grateful to perform at Reggae Sumfest for the first time since 2019.
Masicka
A 10 out of 10 performance is what the “Genna” himself gave patrons as they sang with him throughout his entire set.
Valiant
The newly signed Romeich Entertainment artiste was extremely excited to make his debut on the Sumfest stage and he delivered.
With countless hits since his ascension in the dancehall arena, the St Andrew-born artiste took the show to another level as most of the audience was standing and singing to every line of his songs.
Night 1 was truly packed with some of the most impressive performances and was totally violence free.
