Mayor of Kingston, Senator Delroy Williams, has pointed out that the reopening of the ROK Hotel in downtown Kingston, will serve as a catalyst of consistent positive investment in the city and confidence in the future of the capital.

In a release on Thursday, January 6, Williams stated that the 168 room hotel will contribute significantly to the economic growth of the city and provide job opportunities in the near future.

“We have seen the opening of a number of hotels in Kingston in recent years and it speaks to the work being done by the municipality and the Central Government,” Williams explained.

He further noted that the vision of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) to create a destination experience has taken form and has also seen early successes.

“Already, Kingston has had its first cruise ship for the year with several others scheduled for our ports. This is big news when we look at where we are coming from. The waterfront is being transformed before our eyes and opportunities and spaces for leisure and entertainment are being created to support this effort. This hotel is another boost for our city and the KSAMC looks forward to its opening and the successes it will have,” Williams added.

While highlighting the impact that the pandemic has had on travel along with stopover arrivals, Williams remains optimistic that recovery will be fruitful and expressed gratitude to the investors for their confidence in the city over the past five years.

ROK Hotel will be the 4th hotel opened in the capital city since 2016.

The KSAMC remains committed to its vision for the redevelopment of downtown Kingston.
