Inspirational striker Cristiano Ronaldo was again on the scoresheet for Manchester United as they beat Brentford 3-0 at Old Trafford on Monday.
Ronaldo, who has scored in back-to-back games for United, made his deposit via a 61st-minute penalty to move his tally to 18 league goals for the season.
CR7’s strike had put United two goals to the good, as fellow Portugal attacker Bruno Fernandes had opened preceding earlier with a ninth-minute strike giving them a one-goal cushion in the first half.
In what was their final home game of the season, United looked like a more composed unit compared to their forgettable showing against Everton and Arsenal over the past week.
The improvement was evident after January signee Raphael Varane scored Man U’s third in the 72nd minute to consolidate their result as they were relatively decent in defense by their recent standards to see out the remainder of the 90 minutes.
The result keeps them firmly in sixth place, for the moment on 58 points, after Westham (52) was edged 2-1 by fourth-placed Arsenal over the weekend.
With two games remaining for the ‘Red Devils’, they keep their Europa League dream alive, as eighth-placed Wolverhampton Wonderers on 49 points having played two games less are also in with a shout for European football next season.
