Following the long-awaited meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United boss Erik Ten Haag on Tuesday regarding his future at the club, reports are that the player remains unhappy and is still keen on a move away this summer.
This latest update comes despite Ten Haag’s insistence that both he and the player had positive talks about his role in the club during their preseason.
The Portugal captain of course has missed all of United’s four pre season games thus far, citing personal reasons, opting to train separately in his native Portugal.
The Dutchman who took over the reigns at United at the end of the last season, replacing Ralf Rangnick following a disastrous campaign which saw them finish sixth in the league, stated that Ronaldo is his rebuilding plans for the club amidst multiple departures.
Ronaldo who has 1 year remaining on his current deal, had of course indicated a desire to leave after the lethargic transfer activity by United, to strengthen its squad which he believes is currently unable to challenge for trophies.
The situation is a very interesting juncture with Man. U holding their position on Ronaldo being off the market, and the striker still adamant on leaving with the new season set to begin in next week.
All parties are said to be in emergency dialogue to remedy the situation.
With the transfer window down and no takers from the major clubs after Chelsea seemingly withdrew their interest, all indicators suggest that the Portuguese talisman will ultimately remain at Old Trafford at least until after the World Cup in November.
Following the tournament, he might be keen on pushing for a move in the January transfer window.
United will open their first league fixture at Old Trafford to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday August 7.
