Cristiano Ronaldo continues to shorten his journey to 1000 career goals after scoring his 906th strike in football as the Portgual beat Poland 3-1 in UEFA Nations League action on Saturday.

Ronaldo, who has scored in his last four consecutive games, needed just 37 minutes added to his tally after being in the right place at the right time to dispatch an off-the-post deflected Rafael Leão shot inside the six-yard box.

That goal was Ronaldo’s 11th of the year and sixth since passing the historic 900-goal mark in football and doubled Portugal’s lead after Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for the former European Champions.

Ronaldo, who turned 39 in February, has looked like a refreshed player under the new manager Roberto Martinez and has been more focused since announcing his target of 1000 career goals. Given his current output, it seems less farfetched every time he takes the pitch.

With the World Cup less than two years away and Cr7’s form and thirst for records, the possibility of an unprecedented fifth appearance has strongly increased.

Before that, however, Ronaldo could lower the deficit in his goal chase when Portugal faces Scotland in their next game on Tuesday.
