National champion Janieve Russell will be the only Jamaican contesting the women’s 400m hurdles after compatriots Leah Nugent and Ronda Whyte suffered mishaps at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games a short while ago.

Russell, running from lane seven in heat two went out really well and was smooth over the first few hurdles which propelled her to the lead coming off the curve. From there it was a walk in the park, as she finished second in 54.81s securing her spot in the semi-finals.

She was expected to be joined by Nugent and Whyte but both were disqualified for a lane violation and false-start, respectively.
