Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda says its time for countries who triggered the crisis of Climate Change to offer up more than just “gifts”.

In an interview with Newsday, the Minister said salt water is “intruding Jamaica’s wells and there’s soil deterioration”.
As a result, Jamaica alone would need “three billion dollars to be water resilient by 2030”.

He said because Jamaica is not facing poverty it is “unfortunately left out” but it needs to be given the same considerations as countries in Africa.

World leaders are set to meet in Paris today (Thursday) and could allow for poorer countries to have access to hundreds of billions of dollars to tackle climate change.

More details to come.
