South Africa former double Olympic Champion Caster Semenya said she was willing to show her privates to athletics officials as an 18-year-old to prove she was a female.

The revelation was made in a recent interview with HBO Real Sports, where she accused track and field’s governing body of forcing her to take medication as a requirement to compete, likening the act of torture which left her fearful of having a heart attack.

The revelation, which was part of a promotional clip with a South African athlete by the Network was released on Monday to drum on anticipation for the full interview which is expected to be aired on Tuesday.

In the clip, Semenya reflected on the firestorm which erupted after she emphatically claimed the 800 meters World Title at 18-years old due to her unusual muscular physique which attracted severe scrutiny of her gender.

“I told them, ‘It’s fine. I’m a female. I don’t care. If you want to see I’m a woman, I will show you my vagina. Alright?’” she said.

The athlete added that she was mandated to take medication to lower her unusually higher than normal testosterone level which she claims made her sick in order to continue competing.

“It made me sick, made me gain weight, panic attacks. I didn’t know if I was ever going to have a heart attack,” Semenya expressed. “It’s like stabbing yourself with a knife every day. But I had no choice.”

“I’m 18, I want to run. I want to make it to (the) Olympics, that’s the only option for me. But I had to make it work,” she continued.

The move was criticized in some quarters of the medical community reportedly being labelled as unethical.

World Athletics lawyer Jonathan Taylor who was also interviewed by HBO Real Sports defended the medication stating that – leading experts said they would prescribe it for female athletes with high testosterone.

These comments were blasted by Semenya.

“Jonathan must cut his tongue and throw it away,” Semenya said. “If he wants to understand how that thing has tortured me, he must go and take those medications. He will understand,” she added.

The former World Champion who hasn’t run since 2019 now 31, is currently banned from competition unless she resumes taking the medication.
