Iconic Jamaican-born actress Sherly Lee Ralph was among the highlights of the 2023 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, after delivering another moving acceptance speech following her win during the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Ralph who won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series; for her role as Barbara Howard in Abbott Elementary had the audience in awe of her message of respect during her acceptance.

“people don’t have to like you, people don’t have to love you, they don’t even have to respect you” she shared as the attendees, magnetized by her delivery listened with keen interest.

“but when you look in the mirror,” she continued “you better love what you see” she passionately state before continuing her thanks to the critics who voted for her performances.

A message which resonated well among her peers and reflected in an overwhelming ovation for the iconic actress.

It was a similar memorable reception for Ralph only a few months prior at the 2022 Emmy Awards in September.

The actress who copped the prize for Best Outstanding Supporting Actress, also for her role in the critically acclaimed series, gave arguably the highlight of the night following her moving speech which included singing a verse from jazz singer Diane Reeves’ 1993 song “Endangered Species.”

Ralph’s actual speech was equally as moving as the serenade.

“To anyone who has ever ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like,” she said. “This is what striving looks like, and don’t you ever, ever give up on you.”

“Because if you get a Quinta Brunson, [show’s creator and co-star] if you get a husband like mine in your corner,” Ralph added.

“If you get children like mine in your corner, and if you’ve got friends like everybody who voted for me, cheered for me, loved me, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” she closed to a standing ovation.
