The Australian Police have pointed out that six children have died after a bouncy castle was lifted in the air at a school event last week.
The deceased are 12-year-old Jalailah Jane-Marie Jones, 12-year-old Jye Sheehan, 12-year-old Peter Dodt, and 12-year-old Zane Mellor, along with 11-year-old Addison Stewart, and 11-year-old Chace Harrison who passed away in hospital yesterday afternoon.
Additionally, two children remain in critical condition in the hospital while another is recovering at home.
Tasmania Commissioner of Police Darren Hines has also pointed out that “close to 40” children were taking part in the activities when a wind gust lifted the castle off the ground.
Several adults who were supervising the event provided first aid until emergency services arrived.
The Commissioner also pointed out that the Devon Port Criminal Investigation Branch’s priority will be to interview all witnesses, gather and analyse forensic evidence along with the environmental aspects, including weather patterns and conditions at the time of the incident.
“Given the magnitude of this critical incident and the need to speak to a large number of traumatized children within a short period of time, we have accepted an offer from the New South Wales Police in conducting interviews in relation to the investigation,” Hines noted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Scott has pointed out that the nature of events is truly heartbreaking.
