A total of 415,000 hemp plants valuing 100 million euros was destroyed by Spanish police in what was deemed as the biggest raid to dismantle what police said was Europe’s biggest cannabis plantation.

The operation, which was carried out on Wednesday, was done on a farm in rural Northern Navarre which comprises of 11 fields or 67 hectares.

Three people were arrested following the operation.

Reports indicated that 50 tons of hemp plants were being dried in a warehouse in preparation for extracting the compound Cannabidiol (CBD).

While CBD sale and consumption is legal across Spain and most of Europe, Spanish law still prohibits the cultivation of cannabis plants for anything other than industrial uses, such as for textiles and seeds.

Further reports also outlined that the fields were initially discovered last year. The owner of the farm originally reported it as a legal operation to produce industrial hemp, however it was later discovered that such a declaration was false.
