Former government Senator KD Knight added his voice towards the pro-independent movement to remove the Queen as the head of Jamaica.
Speaking with SLEEK Jamaica Media during an anti-Monarch protest in front of the British High Commission on Tuesday, Mr Knight highlighted his stance of a fully independent Jamaica.
“As a member of a political party that has tried to get rid of the Monarchy, I’m to support this demonstration,” the former Senator said.
“And also, it is my considered view that as far as reparations are concerned that one the Monarchy owes us an apology and secondly because of the horrific treatment to my ancestors because of the denial of education, denial of opportunity denial of humanity,” he stated among a host of atrocities he says the people have suffered and continue to suffer.
The learned Queen’s Counsel’s comments were complementary to the other noted personalities who expressed opposition to the retention of the Royal family’s connection to the former Colony.
Fellow noted Attorney Miguel Lorne was also among the more vocal protesters at the demonstration
“Brothers and Sisters, we are making this demand and we are saying this that you come here and unless you settle that issue of compensation of issues of reparations then we can never keep quiet,” he said.
“We have a lot of injustices in Jamaica, but right now we are demanding just reparations from the British government.”
The staged protest has been prompted with a three-day visit by the Duke and Duchess of Edinborough, Prince William, and Princess Kate as representatives of Queen Elizabeth to commemorate her 70th year as head of the Common Wealth.
