Raheem Sterling will be part of England’s squad for their quarter-final showdown against World Cup champions France on Saturday.

According to reports, Sterling, 28, is currently on his way back to Qatar to rejoin the England set-up ahead of their crucial fixture on the weekend.

“Raheem Sterling will return to England’s World Cup base in Qatar,” the English Football Association confirmed on Thursday.

“The Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend to a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah on Friday (9 December) ahead of the quarter-final with France” the FA added.

Sterling had missed England’s 3-0 victory over Senegal in the round-of-16 game on Tuesday following reports of an armed break-in at his family home. Family members including his children were said to have been present at the time of the intrusion.

Sterling who was part of England’s squad that reached the semi-finals in the Russia-hosted 2018 tournament has a goal to his name this year after netting in their 6-2 dismissal of Iran in the group stages.

The England and France fixture will be the second game of double feature on the day with Portugal set to tackle France in the earlier game.
