A Taiwanese plastic surgeon has been grabbing global headlines after performing a vasectomy on himself as “a gift to his wife.”
The man, identified as Chen Wei-nong, works in a clinic in Taipei City and has local sensation and a source of international intrigue following the self-done procedure.
According to reports, the motivation behind the invasive act for the father of three was to put his wife’s mind at ease to prevent them from having any unplanned pregnancies.
Despite the extremely invasive contraceptive method executed, Dr Wei-nong has garnered global viral status after he uploaded “clips of the snip” online, essentially as an instructional video on social media on how to perform the act for educational purposes.
“It was a strange feeling to touch and suture my own urethra,” Chen Weinong told his social media followers.
“In the case of female fallopian tube surgery, it is very difficult, but in the case of men, it is relatively easier because the problem is basically solved by finding the vas deferens externally and tying it.”
According to reports, the video, which immediately went viral in Taiwan, racked up over 4 million views in a few days, with a significant number of comments commending his bravery, medical skill and love for his wife.
Other comments expressed concern about his safety for the self-performed procedure.
While most commended his courage, skills, and love for his wife, some expressed concern about the safety of the self-performed procedure.
The young doctor clarified that he was a licensed surgeon and that the vasectomy was performed at his own risk, outside of work hours, under the supervision of a urologist.
