Suspect killed in military operation in Central Village

A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with members of the security forces during a joint police/military operation in Central Village, St Catherine yesterday.

In addition to the shooting, a .38 Special Revolver and three rounds of ammunition were seized in the incident.

Police however outlined that the incident has been reported to the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a subsequent probe will be launched.

This shooting incident comes months after a 32-year-old man was fatally shot and two others including a 5-year-old was injured following a brazen attack carried out by a lone gunman in the community on Friday, October 28.

The deceased has been identified as Dean Sharpe of Seaview Gardens, St Andrew.

Preliminary reports state that at about 6:30 pm on Friday, Sharpe was among persons at a cook shop, when a gunman approached and opened fire before escaping.

When the shooting subsided, Sharpe, a woman and the child were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

All three victims were transported to the hospital, where Sharpe succumbed to his injuries.

No arrests have since been made.
