USA’s Women’s 400m hurdles star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone defended her Olympic crown in fashion after logging an eye-popping 50.37 seconds in the finals, breaking her own world record for the sixth time.

The 25-year-old was a picture of dominance against a formidable field including teammate Anna Cockrell, who won silver in 51.87s and Dutch star and World Champion- Femke Bol who faded into third with 52.15s at the Stade de France on Thursday.

More impressive, it was the second time in under three months that she had lowered the record having set the previous mark of 50.65 seconds in June at the U.S. Olympic trials.

She now becomes the first American to defend gold in an individual track event since Michael Johnson’s back-to-back 400m golds at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney.
