A pulsating close to Day 8 of the World Athletics Championships is anticipated tonight, when team Jamaica lines up to contest the exciting 4×100 relays finals in Eugene, Oregon.

Both male and female teams who qualified for the tonight’s grand finale on Thursday, are among the medal favorites in a strong event this year.

All eyes are expected to be firmly engaged on the Women’s sprint relay finals, more specifically on the anticipated performance by the Jamaican quartet.

The team from the Caribbean enters the finals as overwhelming favorites to complete the full set of sprint titles at these Championships, after comfortably dominating the individual events to take both crowns

All three of the Jamaica’s history making trio of; 100 meters Champ; Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 200m Champ; Sherika Jackson and 100m bronze medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah, will return for the finals after being rested in qualifiers to form a super team.

While the team is expected to boss the women’s finals based on individual performances, it’s the collective effort which will have fans at the edge of their seats, in anxiety over the prospect of witnessing  a new world record.

The current mark is 40.82 seconds set in 20012 by the US at the London Olympics, with Jamaica having the second fastest time of 41.02 seconds. However, that rank may be rearranged in a few hours.

Jamaica who entered these championships with; ‘world record watch’ attached in both 100 and 200m, having two of the three fastest women in history competing, are closing their participation with the same anxiety of a possible new page in the record books.

With Jamaica’s team having two women capable of 10.6’s, three women able to post 10.7s and its top five capable of 10.9s it’s a warranted expectation of a new world mark with efficient baton exchanges.

This event is set to run off at 9 :30 pm and will be penultimate race of the day.

The men’s 4x100m is set to bring the conclusion of the evening, with Jamaica lining up in lane 5 of that on the night.

While not as strong as the female team this year they’re expected to be challenge for podium places as National champion Yohan Blake and 100m finalist Oblique Seville are set to provide additional impetuous to the team after being rested in the heats.

That race set for 9:50 pm.
