Dancehall A-Listers Teejay, Sean Paul, Jah Vinci and Charly Black, along with a mix of young talents such as King Cruff and Eesah, were among February’s instalment of Billboard’s Reggae/Dancehall Fresh Picks of the Month.
“Drift” boss Teejay makes his return to Billboard’s “Fresh Picks” with his track “4th of July.” The song, which forms part of his recently released “I am Chippy Ep,” sees the Montego Bay native toasting his desire to live in a celebratory mood which he compares to the feeling of the noted American holiday.
Dancehall titan Sean Paul makes a joint entry with Reggae icon Beres Hammond with their latest collab, “Tender, Tender.” The track, released on February 23, is another refreshing Reggae and dancehall effort by the two that lives up to the expected quality of music giants. The smooth crooning vocals of Hammond perfectly balance with the punching lyrics of Sean Paul in a delightful follow-up to their previous “Rebel Time.”
Jah Vinci’s reflective single “Where is the Love?” has found favour with Billboard curators. The melodic wailing of the former Portmore Empire star delivers an impassioned cry of caution about the expectations of others with a reminder to not fall into the same behaviour and remain genuine.
Charly Black serves the right menu with his release “Oxtail Extra Gravy“, which has hit the spot for Billboard. The veteran entertainer, who playfully describes his love for his lady as that of a delectable meal shows compelling pull even as a song lyric
Fast risers such as King Cruff and Eesah also found their place among fresh finds of the month with creative sounds.
King Cruff‘s collaboration with the sharp-witted Runkus makes the list with “Fallback,” which is described as “a sleek ode to heartache inna di dancehall.” While creative lyricist Eesah makes his debut with a compelling release titled “Behold the Conquering Lion“
Other notable entries include the ZJ Chrome and Christopher Martin combination on “The Hate Song,” FS and Ireland Boss Chasing Dreams, and JBoog’s Always Been You.
