The third tallest statue of Jesus in the world is currently being built in Brazil. The new statue, Christ the Protector is currently under construction by sculptor Genésio Gomes Moura and his son, Markus Moura. It will stand 43 meters (141 feet) tall, which is 16 feet taller than Rio’s Christ the Redeemer.

Christ the Redeemer was created between 1922 and 1931 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa.

The head and arms of the statue were installed earlier this month and the construction, which started in 2019, should be finished by the end of this year. It is intended to be a major tourist attraction that will boast a lookout point at Jesus’ heart.

The project is estimated to cost about $350,000 and persons are being asked to make contributions to finish it.
