Three children aged one, six and eight have died in a house fire in the community of East Bank Demerara earlier today. Reports indicate around 1:25 a.m., firefighters received a call about the blaze, soon after firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Acting Fire Chief Gregory Wickham however indicated that efforts to extinguish the fire was delayed as firefighters had to traverse to the location on foot.

Chief Wickham also noted that when fire-fighters got to the scene, the one-flat wooden house was already engulfed, and it was only after the fire was put out and investigators combed the scene that the charred remains of the children were found.

As it now stands, an investigation has now been launched to ascertain the cause of the fire.

In addition, the Guyana Police Force has launched a manhunt for Junior Cedric Dey who is wanted for questioning in relation to the fire that claimed the lives of the children.
