An Indonesian social media influencer Ratu Thalisa was reportedly slapped with a two and ten-month jail sentence for telling a picture of Jesus that He needed a haircut.
According to reports, Thalisa was found guilty by a Medan court for perpetuating “hate speech” against Christianity, and disruption of “public order” and “religious harmony” in Thai society following statements which seemingly mocked the religious figure.
It’s understood that, in the controversial video Thalisa, who is said to be a a transgender Muslim woman with nearly 450,000 followers on the social media platform TikTok made remarks; “You should not look like a woman. You should cut your hair so that you will look like his father.”
The online utterance drew almost immediate backlash with several Christian groups reportedly filing complaints against the TikToker, accusing them of blasphemy, where Thalisa was also fined $6,200 in addition to the multi-year sentence.
Ratu Thalisa was charged under Indonesia’s controversial Electronic Information and Transactions (EIT) law, which was introduced in 2008 and amended in 2016 to address online defamation.
