Popular entertainer Tommy Lee Sparta has been charged and is scheduled to appear before the court on January 6.
Tommy Lee has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The police communication arm, CCU, confirmed a short while ago via Twitter that the artiste had been formally charged.
Tommy Lee, given name, Leroy Russell was held on Monday by members of the Specialized Operations Branch following the seizure of one 9mm pistol with an extended magazine containing eighteen rounds of ammunition during an operation on Holborn Road, St. Andrew.
The police say the firearm was found in the artiste’s waistband.
Reports from the police are that about 6:00 p.m., a Toyota Mark X motorcar was stopped, the occupants searched and the firearm and ammunition found on the suspect.
Earlier this afternoon a corporate area judge, following an habeus corpus application, ruled that the entertainer be charged or released by Thursday at 8 a.m.
The deejay was subsequently charged.
He is represented by Tom Tavares Finson QC and Donahue Martin Jr.
Sleek Jamaica Media understands that Russell is also the subject of other criminal investigations.
Meanwhile, the other men held along with Russell remain in police custody and are being investigated by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime (CTOC) Unit.
