Our forever Miss World Toni-Ann Singh didn’t let a fractured leg prevent her from giving an absolutely stunning performance, worthy of stately acclaim as one the main acts at the launch of Jamaica 60 on the lawns of Jamaica House on Wednesday night.
Singh, who’s left foot was wrapped in plaster had to be assisted on stage. However, that would be the only assistance she would need as she gave powerful reprises of ‘The Prayer’ by Celine Dione and Bob Marley’s Redemption Song.
The 2019 Pageant Queen was nothing short of regal, dawned in a teal color jump suit. She was a picture of grace and poise seated on stage.
Her performance was equally as captivating, demonstrating her strong vocal range and high register control in delivering a potent rendition of the ‘The Prayer,’ which it was itself worthy of praise.
Singh, who obviously had to be seated during her set, had everyone out of theirs in a standing ovation for the performance as she left the stage.
It was more of the same for her second item. As her rendition of Redemption Song, evoked strong emotional appeal amongst the entire venue. The performance embodied the message of the song, the idea of self-liberation, consciousness, independence and most of all pride. All of which tied perfectly into the mantra of the celebration of Jamaica’s independence.
Pride was definitely what everyone was feeling as they reflected on not only the country’s independence and its many achievements but to witness the talent of another one of our cultural ambassadors on show.
Singh who was crowned Miss World in 2019 was the longest serving Monarch of the pageant; (three years), after the 2020 pandemic extended her reign to 2022.
