Songs from iconic Reggae band Toots and the Maytals remain an essential listen for music lovers internationally, as their 1973 single “Pressure Drop,” was certified silver in the UK after earning the equivalent of 200,000 units sold in the territory.

The British Phonographic Institute (BPI), certified the track’s award on Friday.

It is the band’s second certification over the past 12 months following their gold success for the iconic 54-46 (Was My Number) in August 2023.

The autobiographic track was inspired by lead singer Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert’s time in prison following his arrest for possession of marijuana.

His incarceration was later revealed to have been an orchestrated plot set up by a promoter following a falling out with the singer, as per Genius.

The experience however proved to be a blessing in disguise being the muse for one of the group’s most successful releases.
