The Tropical storm warning issued early yesterday for Jamaica has been discontinued, as Tropical Storm Grace continues to move away from the island.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service), in a bulletin this morning, said at 4:00 am the centre of Tropical Storm Grace was located near Latitude 18.8 degrees North, Longitude 80.9 degrees west. This, it said, is about 280 kilometres or 175 miles west-northwest of Negril Point or 65 kilometres or 40 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman.

Grace is moving towards the west near 26 km/h (16mph) and a general westward to west-northwestward motion is expected for the next several days.

The centre of Grace is forecast to move near or over the Cayman Islands later this morning and then approach the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico tonight or early Thursday.

The Met Service said the large area of showers and thunderstorms associated with Tropical Storm Grace is now moving away from Jamaica and tropical storm conditions are no longer being experienced on the island.

Sea conditions are also gradually returning to near normal as the system continues westwards.
