Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton says his ministry is expecting to receive 1.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine between now and September.

He made the announcement a short while ago during a virtual press conference from Jamaica House in St Andrew.

“In some instances, those vaccines will be single-dose maybe Johnson and Johnson. We are anticipating some 393,000 doses between that time. So, 393,000 Jamaicans can access as a single dose over the next few months and we’re fairly confident that the first shipment will arrive within the next week and a half or so — which will be about 168,000.

“We expect also from the US [approximately] 640,000. That’s a double dose brand so you will get your first and then your second within a four-week interval,” Tufton said.

At the same time, he said that the health ministry is expecting some 100,620 doses and that this will be the Pfizer brand through COVAX.

He said this shipment is expected to arrive in early August.

The minister also noted that a shipment of approximately 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to arrive from the United Kingdom later this week.
