Twitter’s new boss Linda Yaccarino, officially unveiled the social media platform’s new logo, featuring a white X on a black background, which replaces the distinguishable blue bird.
In a tweet on Monday morning, Yaccarino stated; “X is here! Let’s do this.”
The CEO, also noted that the rebrand was an exciting new opportunity for the company to “go further, transforming the global town square.”
The official rebrand comes a day after the company’s owner Elon Musk, shared that he was looking to change Twitter’s logo on Sunday, tweeting: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
The billionaire then shared a picture of the new X branding projected onto the side of Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco.
As part of the rebrand, Mr. Musk also noted that the term “Tweets” will be replaced on the platform with all posts to be called “x’s.” He also changed his profile picture to the new logo and added “X.com” to his Twitter bio.
It’s further understood that Mr. Musk, who is said to have changed the name of the business to ‘X Corp,’ said the replacement “should have been done a long time ago.”
He also posted an image of a flickering “X” on Twitter, and later in a Twitter Spaces audio chat, replied “Yes” when asked if the Twitter logo will change.
The bird is called Larry which Twitter’s co-founder Biz Stone said, in 2011, is a tribute to basketball star and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.
People took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the iconic logo, including Martin Grasser who designed the logo in 2012.
“Today we say goodbye to this great blue bird” he tweeted, which was later shared by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s best-known co-founder.
