South African singer Tyla earned her first RIAA-certified platinum record for the hit “Water.”

This means the song has sold 1,000,000 certification units or more.

The amapiano tune produced by Sammy Soso was released on July 28, 2023, and quickly took social media by storm mainly via TikTok, thanks to its viral dance challenge.

This is a major accomplishment for the 21-year-old talent who recently told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe that “Water” “changed my whole life completely.” and that “It’s so crazy how a song can change your life like this. It’s beautiful.”

While saying “It’s so exciting. I’m so happy that people are loving the sound coming from home. So yeah, I’m excited to see where it goes from here… I’m just excited that more people are hearing my music and enjoying the stuff that I’m putting out.”

‘Water’ also serves as the lead single from Tyla’s self-titled debut album, set for release on March 1 via Fax and Epic Records.
