U-20 Reggae Girlz dismantle Cuba to resurrect Championship hopes

The young Reggae Girlz earned their first points at the U-20 Concacaf Women’s Championship after blanking Cuba 3-0 on Sunday in the Dominican Republic.

The Girlz came off an opening round defeat to Guatemala, going down 1-0 on Saturday rebounded well against Cubans.

Striker Kameron Simonds was the star on the evening after bagging a double as Jamaica registered its first goals of the tournament.

The number 9 was simply imperious in front of the goal as she let fly two composed efforts at both halves of the game to stamp Girlz dominance over their Caribbean neighbors.

She opened her account in minute 33rd, to give Jamaica the lead before adding her second three minutes following the resumption. Christina Salmon then added an insurance goal 10 minutes from time to seal the three points for the Jamaicans.

The Reggae Girlz will next play Haiti in a must-final game on Wednesday and hope the Cubans beat Guatemala in their fixture to secure passage to the next round.

Both Haiti and Guatemala have 4 points with Jamaica third on 3 the winner is of the group assured advancement.
