MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell has withdrawn his letter of resignation as the chairman of Manchester Municipal Corporation.

In an about-turn, Mitchell, the People’s National Party (PNP) councillor for the Royal Flat Division, wrote to the chief executive officer of the municipal corporation, Winston Palmer, communicating his decision.

“Please accept this letter as withdrawal of my resignation letter dated July 15, 2021. I look forward to continuing working with the Manchester Municipal Corporation as chairman. Thanks for your understanding,” the letter read.

Mitchell had earlier today submitted a resignation letter to Palmer which should have taken effect at 5:00 pm.

“It has become evidently clear that the members of the council [have] lost confidence in me in executing my duties as chairman. Please note [that] I will continue to sit as councillor for the [division] until the next elections are called,” he wrote in that letter, a copy of which SLEEK News had seen.
