Former men’s 100m World Champion, US Sprinter Fred Kerley, is reportedly facing battery charges following a heated confrontation with police and subsequent arrest in Miami.

Kerley, 29, was taken into custody for alleged battery on a law enforcement officer and other charges in following a tussle that was captured on police body camera.

The footage released Friday shows Kerley, in a grey patterned hoodie, speaking with multiple officers as another officer approaches just before the incident takes a physical turn.

A report by Miami Beach Police officials said officers were conducting an investigation into an incident on the 100 block of 9th Street on Thursday night when Kerley approached the scene and expressed concerns about his vehicle, which was said to be parked nearby, as per NBC 4.

The report described the athlete’s “demeanour” as” increasingly aggressive”, and he was asked to leave the area however, he refused the requests.

Miami Beach Police also said Kerley took a “fighting stance” while rejecting the officers’ commands, which led to the use of a stun gun on the track star to take him into custody.

The reigning Olympic 100m Bronze medalist was, also reportedly hit with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges.
