From voice notes to movie clips to punchlines, dancehall songs have delivered a few creative introductions over the years. Music insider DJ Nassal weighed in on the significance of a song “intro”.
What makes a creative Intro?
DJ Nasaal noted that “special” intros are not necessarily needed in songs. However, they create an anticipation for the direction or theme of the track, which can enhance the overall pull if done properly.
He also shared that the lyrical composition and beat structure at the song’s start account for the creative elements of the intro.
Some of the most creative intros you’ve heard?
Vybz Kartel’s “Freaky Gyal,” “Reverse Time” by Masicka and “SHHH” by Intense are among the tracks that have effectively utilised that posses standout creative usage in their introduction.
Can an Introduction sell an entire song?
DJ Cahddy G also weighed in, noting that while an intro can set up the anticipation for the track, generally, it can’t solely sell the song, he explained.
Can it work against track?
According to DJ Nasaal, while an attempted “creative intro” can set up a song, it could also work against its intended purpose if not executed right.
