Popular American Pastor Mike Todd has apologised for wiping spit over a man’s face while giving a sermon during his church service on Sunday.

Pastor Todd shared the apology via his Instagram post stating that it was misjudged action to represent the point in his service.

“I just want to acknowledge what happened yesterday when the spit hit the fan. I watched it back and umm, it was disgusting,” he said. “ I was really trying to make the word come alive and for people to see the story, but yesterday it got too live, and I own that,” he added.

“We want people to see Jesus, we want people to feel loved. We want people who are desperate to be able to find hope,” he said. “I’m passionate about that, so much so that I try to do extreme things… and yesterday it crossed the line,” he continued.

He also encouraged persons to watch the entire video to get the context of his actions at the time.

Pastor Todd, while telling the parable of Jesus healing the blind man using his saliva, decided to replicate the act using his own spit to illustrate the actions of the story doing a live sermon.

The action received major backlash immediately and has been subject to possible healthcare breaches given the current COVID pandemic.
