Danielle Williams reclaimed the women’s 100-metre hurdles title to secure Jamaica’s first gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest on Thursday.

Williams roared to a season’s best of 12.43 seconds to beat Olympic Champion Jasmine Comacho Quinn (12.44) and USA’s Kendra Harrison (12.46), who copped the bronze medal in 12.46 seconds.

The win was Williams’ second world title, following her 2015 exploits in Beijing, China, and her first medal since she picked up bronze in the 2018 edition in London.

Rising star Akera Nugent, running in her first World Championships, finished a credible fifth in 12.61 seconds.

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan relinquished her crown with a sixth-place finish after crossing the line in 12.62 seconds, with former world champion Nia Ali finishing down the track in eighth in 12.78 seconds.
