2016 Women’s T20 World Champions West Indies women advance to the semifinals of the 2024 World Cup following a six-wicket victory over England in an epic fixture at Dubai International Cricket Stadium game on Tuesday.

The Windies, who were seeking their first final-four appearance since 2018, showed confidence as they elected to field after winning the toss, having previously successfully chased down victory in their last fixture.

That strategy proved effective as they restricted England’s top order to 94 runs after 14 overs while claiming four scalps in the process.

Despite Nat Sciver-Brunt with a team-high of 50 runs and 21 runs from Skipper Heather Knight, it was the only resistance offered by the fragile England team as a rampant Windies bowling plundered the British for 141-7.

With a victory target and spot set at 142 runs, the Windies were ruthless in their reply, halving the total in 10 overs as they passed before the loss of their first wickets on the back of half-centuries from openers Halyley Mathews (50) Qiana Joseph (52).

Despite losing Shemaine Campbelle for five runs, Deandra Dottin deposited 27 runs to steer the Windies women across the line and into the semi-finals with two overs to spare.

They are set to face New Zealand for a spot in the final on Friday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
