Former Women’s T20 World Champions, the West Indies was in scintillating form as they dismissed Scotland by wickets six wickets to secure their first win at the 2024 tournament at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai, on Sunday.

The Caribbean team, who opened the tournament with a loss to South Africa midweek, had a point to prove in their second group game.

The Windies women, sent to the field first, easily contained the Scottish batting as bowler Affy Fletcher ripped through their middle order with a game-high 3-22.

Her haul came after Skipper Hayley Mathews and Chinelle Henrey cleared the openers with a wicket each to leave the Scottish women reeling at 76-5 after 14 overs.

Runouts by former Captain Stafanie Taylor and Wicket Keeper Shemaine Campbelle following a bowled by Karishma Ramharack restricted the Scotts to 99-8 in their 20 overs, leaving the Windies victory target of 100 runs.

The Windies, in reply, seemed a bit too anxious after losing two wickets for 32 runs as Matheews and Taylor were sent back for eight and four runs, respectively, after five overs.

Qiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin restored stability to the innings with a knock of 31 and 28 runs, respectively, to raise the score to 59 runs before Joseph’s dismissal in over nine.

Dottin then teamed up with Henry to carry the Windies across the line and bring the score to 101-4 in the 11th over to secure victory by six wickets.

The win sees them rebound from their loss to South Africa in their Cup opener last week.

They will next face Bangladesh in their third group fixture on Thursday.
