Xavi earned his first trophy as Barcelona manager after beating rivals Real Madrid 3-1 to lift the Spanish Super Cup finals on Sunday.
Xavi who took the reins at the club in 2021, has overseen a turbulent period for the club which saw them undergo a massive financial reconstruction and squad rebuild after losing several major names following the pandemic.
Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Gavi, and Perdri in the 33rd, 43rd, and 69th minutes respectively ensured that the Catalans would have the last laugh despite a late consolation goal by Karim Benzema in extra time (903+rd minute).
The former captain faced pressure following Barca’s early exit from the champions league season however can now breathe a bit easier after lifting their major silverware this year.
The triumph comes during a good spell by the former European Champions who have also taken leadership in the race for the La Liga crown.
Barca currently leads real by three points in the standings on 41 points and are unbeaten in their last five games, while Madrid has won just twice in their last five domestic league games.
Xavi and his Barcelona team will be looking to continue their push for more silverware this season when they face AD Cueta in the Copa Del Rey round-of-16 on Thursday.
Real will also be active in the tournament when they line against Villarreal on that day.
