Long running American Day time TV talk show ‘The Maury Show’ is reportedly set to end this season after three decades on air.
In a press release by NBC/Universal on Saturday, they confirmed the show’s end after years of drama filled hot topics and social issues which eventually became a cultural reference for uncovering details on relationships.
The Maury Show, which started in 1991 as the ‘Maury Povich Show’, before being shortened to its current name in 1998, has been one of the go-to shows for rectifying relationship mistrust, especially in cases of paternity.
While the program tackles various issues, it was elevated to icon status following his now infamous “YOU ARE….” line before revealing the results of a paternity test.
Povich, 83, started his media career as a radio reporter in Washington, D. C, before being host of ‘A Current Affair’ in 1986, where he stayed until 1990.
In 2020, NBC/Universal announced that the show would be extended for two more seasons, which would run from 2021 through to 2022.
While It [Maury Show] will end after this season, original episodes of the series will continue to air through September, with the show going into full syndication afterwards.
